Nickname: Auni Q1. Why did you initially want to study architecture?
Age: 18 A. I have always been keen on designing since I was young, though it mostly revolved
Hometown: Bogor, around me sketching clothes and fashion. As I grew older, I took a more science oriented
Indonesia
education, and led to my discovery of fields like architecture. I think I was interested in the
fact that an architect had to be “a jack of all trades” in a way, learning various other
fields along the way to enhance their design.
Skills:
Manual Drawing 6/10
Q2. Who inspires you?
A. I don’t have a particular architect I look up to as of yet, though I always found the works
of Zaha Hadid and Frank Gehry to be astonishing. I do have inspiration from public figures
Model Making 6/10 that raised themselves ground up though.
Q3. Besides architecture, what else would you like to pursue?
AutoCAD 5/10 A. I always wanted to pursue interior design or fashion. Maybe even something in
PR/business?
Photoshop 5/10 Q4. What life lesson have you learnt from your first year of architecture studio?
A. One hard cold fact: I still have a long way to go, and there are always others ahead of
me. But from there, the main takeaway is that everyone starts on different starting lines so
Sketchup 7/10 don’t think about the gap you have, you just have to keep running the marathon at your
own pace and make sure you are slowly getting better with every step.
Q5. What message do you have for someone interested in studying architecture?
A. It does seem like the perfect choice for “the perfect combination of science and art” but
remember that the fact that both of the fields are important in this career is the very
reason you have to master BOTH during your education. More work, so less sleep and
social life. But also more rewarding benefits in the end. Take your call.
