Nickname: Aisyah Q1. Why did you initially want to study architecture?
Age: 19 A. Architecture intrigued me not only because of the design aesthetics but how it
Hometown: Kuala Lumpur, sociologically affects the human experience. To me, the people within a building is just as
Malaysia important as the building itself. I wanted to study architecture to learn how to form
environments that enriches the human experience.
Skills:
Q2. Who inspires you?
Manual Drawing 6/10 A. In general, of course it would be my mother. A parent whom their child can look up to, I
believe, is a parent who has done a tremendous job in raising their child. She has never
once complained or given up to provide for my siblings and I. In terms of my studies,
Model Making 5/10 seeing my friends work so hard motivates me to try harder everyday.
Q3. Besides architecture, what else would you like to pursue?
AutoCAD 6/10 A. If I were to purely follow my heart, I would like to own a stationery store with a joint cafe. I
would feel very at ease being able to see the joy of children and even adults alike, being
able to get the stationeries they really wanted while enjoying a cup of coffee. But dreams
Photoshop 7/10 like this are likely unsustainable without sheer luck and determination.
Q4. What life lesson have you learnt from your first year of architecture studio?
Sketchup 6/10 A. The most hard hitting lesson I have learnt is that you can’t always be perfect from the
start. From a science background to a more art inclined degree, it really isn’t as easy as
memorising a formula then applying it. In architecture, it takes time to nurture your project
and no single project is the same. It has really made me respect those who are in the
Revit 7/10
artistic industry a whole lot more.
Q5. What message do you have for someone interested in studying architecture?
A. Illustrator 7/10
A. Don’t do this degree just because buildings look nice and you know you can draw. Once
enrolled, there would be a whole bunch of people who can draw better than you. What
sets students apart is their ideas and their drive to solve a design problem. If you feel that
through design, you could make the world a better place, I say go for it, it's not an easy 4
journey but the outcome is so fulfilling.
