Startup
In Photo 4 below, the element temperature (130) is the top led display and the setpoint (159) is the lower led display.
At startup, the element temperature displayed should be close to the ambient temperature of the soil. For example, if the soil is around 45 degrees F., the element temperature should show around 45 F. If the M1 has recently been operated, the element temperature could be higher because it takes me for the elements to cool once the M1 has been emp ed of soil.

The main func on of the M1’s Power Control Panel is to monitor and control the power that is delivered to the hea ng elements. A Chromalox 1604 Temperature Controller controls the main contactor which turns power and o to the hea ng elements.
The M1-12 u lizes 15 hea ng elements. Two of these elements (in the middle row) are ed with ther- mocouple temperature sensor probes. One of the two provides temperature data to the Chromalox 1604 Temperature Controller. The Chromalox 1604 Temperature Controller uses this thermocouple’s temperature as a guide to control the other 14 elements. The second thermocouple’s temperature is provided to a Chromalox 1600 high limit controller that will shut o power to the hea ng elements if the thermocouple temperature exceeds the temperature setpoint of the high limit controller. For example, if the Chromalox 1600 high limit controller is set at 1350 degrees F. and for some reason the element temperature climbs up to 1351 F, the high limit controller will shut the power o to the hea ng elements and the hea ng elements will begin to drop in temperature.
The Chromalox 1600 high limit controller can be adjusted during a soil/sludge treatment cycle. At any me during treatment, the setpoint temperature of the Chromalox 1600 high limit controller can be raised to a maximum of 1550 F. or lowered. For direc ons on how to program to the Chromalox 1600 high limit controller or the Chromalox 1604 Temperature Controller, refer to their User Manuals (at- tached).
