Pine-Richland School District - Return to School
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Parents
Q: How will I know what day my child goes to school and which day he or she logs on virtually via
the AB option?
A: Students with the last name starting with A through K (AK) would start in-person on A day. Students
with the last name beginning with L through Z (LZ) would begin virtually on A day. A-K students
would then log on remotely on B Day with L-Z students attending school in person on B Day. Unless
impacted by new guidance or conditions, this pattern would continue through the end of September.
Q: When can we see student schedules and teacher assignments?
A: The online parent and student portals will open on Friday, August 21st at 8:00 a.m. Since the system
is new this year, directions on how to access the information will be provided. Staff will be available
through phone and email to answer individual questions. High school families will receive a link to an
electronic Schedule Change Request form when the community portal opens. In addition, families K-12
will view assignments, schedules, and transportation information.
Q: What if I forget which day A Day or B Day falls?
A. We will begin referencing the alternating days as “AK” and “LZ” for clarity. The district will post the
day on the district calendar at www.pinerichland.org which day it is as a reminder.
Q: My children are attending school every day (K-3). Will they have students who are opting for
the A/B schedule in the same class?
A: Yes. However, the number of students in each classroom will be limited to allow for maximum
physical distancing, face masks or shields will also be required.
Q: Will the options stay in place throughout 2020-2021? How long will students have to attend on
an A Day or B Day? Can I change my option and if so what is the process for doing so?
A: The district will continually assess the options and overall plan. By the end of September, the district
will communicate any changes. At this time, if a family selects the A Day/B Day instructional option,
students will follow that schedule through at least the end of September. Updates will be provided in
September on when and how any changes can be made for a specific family. The district will need time to
be able to configure any changes in options.
Q: Are the school hours the same as a regular school day?
A: Yes, families should follow the normal school hours for their child’s school day. Families can view
times via www.pinerichland.org/schools. Breaks will be built into the day. Each building will share drop
off and pick up procedures.
Q: Will there be two-hour delays and school closings?
It is possible the district could close if conditions change or guidelines change regarding COVID.
However, the district is prepared to go 100% virtual. For weather-related delays and closures, it will be
possible for students to log on virtually as long as there are no power or internet outages.
Q: Will parents be able to make changes from virtual to in-person or in-person to virtual after the
August survey is submitted?
A: We anticipate the opportunity to make choices again near the end of September. This may impact
schedules which may take some time to make those adjustments.
