KEYSTONE EXAMS
Results and Findings
Algebra 1
In 2019, 78.1% of all test-takers at Pine-Richland scored advanced/proficient on the Keystone Algebra 1
Exam. In comparison, 39.9% of test-takers statewide scored advanced/proficient. Of note, is that 53%
of the Pine-Richland students scored at the advanced level, in comparison to 18.9% statewide.
The percentages of students scoring advanced/proficient increases the earlier the students take the
exams. For example, in 2019, 92.1% of students in grade 8 scored advanced/proficient as compared to
47.7% in grade 9.
Trend data indicates that Pine-Richland students in grades 7 or below have consistently scored at 100%
proficiency.
Opportunities exist to improve the supplemental instruction and other supports that students who score
below proficiency receive. For example, less than 20% of the students taking the algebra I exam in 10th
and 11th grade scored proficient or advanced.
The School Profile Report is partially linked to the percentage of students who reach proficiency by the
end of 11th grade. To date, 363 of the current 11th-grade students scored at the proficient or advanced
level on the Keystone Algebra I Exam.
The 2019 District Value-Added PVAAS data indicates “significant evidence that the district exceeded
the standard for PA Academic Growth” (i.e., dark blue). The 3-year average value-added data is also
dark blue.
The 2019 Diagnostic Quintile data demonstrates evidence that every student quintile group met (1) or
exceeded (2 - 5) the growth standard in Algebra I.
Literature
In 2019, 84.8% of all test-takers at Pine-Richland scored advanced/proficient on the Keystone Literature
Exam.
In 2019, the percentage of students in grade 9 scoring advanced/proficient and taking the exam for the
first time was 90.6%, compared to 89.3% in 2018 and 86.8% in 2017, respectively.
Although they are different cohorts of students, the percentage of students scoring at the advanced level
has increased in each of the past 4 years.
Opportunities exist to improve the supplemental instruction and other supports that students who score
below proficiency receive. For example, less than 40% of the students taking the algebra I exam in 10th
and 11th grade scored proficient or advanced.
