The  word  “vanity”  is  defined  in




             Webster’s  1828  dictionary  as  “Empty



             pleasure; vain pursuit; idle show; unsubstantial


             enjoyment.” Although King Solomon began



             his reign over Israel seeking God’s wisdom



             and  God’s  direction,  towards  the  end  of




             his life he strayed from that commitment



             and he was vexed in his spirit when he



             realized the purposelessness and emptiness



             of  life  apart  from  living  for  God  and



             fulfilling God’s plan for his life. Solomon



             gathered  every  pleasure  to  his  flesh,  his




             eyes, his ears, and his mouth.  He withheld



             nothing  from  himself,  but in  Ecclesiastes



             1:16-17, Solomon laments, “I communed



             with  mine  own  heart,  saying,  Lo,  I  am
