average child reaches 16 years of age, he
will see over 200,000 acts of violence,
including 33,000 murders. This was Time
Magazine, June 1989. You know that that
statistic is far higher now. By the time the
average teenager reaches 16 years of age,
he will see over 400,000 illicit sexual scenes
in movies and television. By the time a child
finishes elementary school, he will see 8,000
murders, 100,000 acts of violence on
television — and, again, that is a lot higher
right now. A study that was done by TV
Guide in 1993 reported that in a single day,
TV showed over 1800 acts of violence, over
300 assaults, over 300 uses of guns, and
over 200 punches. Again, this is NBC
Nightly News in 1993.
