Page 52 - Apostasy
P. 52

It's talking about apostasy — a very severe

             warning.

                    Then in verses 7, 8, 9, 10, and throughout

the rest of the chapter, he brings hope and

comfort to the believers who persevere, and he

makes a comparison between the fruitful land

and the briars and so forth. Now, again, I'm

using this as an example, and I want you to see

that this passage is dealing with a total

defection, a permanent turning away from

Christ and His Word and His Truth. It's a

mockery, and he said in verse 6 that when

somebody does this, he says "seeing they

crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh,

and put him to an open shame” — no different

than those who crucified Him in AD 33. And

then the warning is given in chapter 3. If you

read through Hebrews, chapter 3, the warning

                                                            48
