P. 56

In order to know the God of creation, we

               need to know Him by the revelation of

               Himself through His Word — and God

               reveals Himself in His Word as a holy God

               who cannot be approached by unholy

               people. One sin makes a person unholy in

               God’s sight and unfit for Heaven, and that

               sin can be cleansed only by the blood of

               God’s Son, who “loved us, and hath given

               himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to

               God for a sweetsmelling savour.”

               God’s Word was a treasure to David, and he

               valued it more than “much fine gold.” It’s no

               wonder that God described David as “a man

               after mine own heart.” The Word of God is

               the key to spiritual growth into Christlikeness

               in a believer’s life, and being conformed to

               the likeness of Christ is God’s ultimate goal

               for every believer (See 1 Pet. 2:2; 2 Pet. 3:18;
