                                                                                                                                          omen in Construction Week (WIC), founded by the National Association of Women in Construction
                                                                                                                                          (NAWIC), was held March 3 - 9 with the theme of Be The Power In Your Success to highlight how each
                                                                                                                                  Wperson's actions determines how their career will unfold. The focus of WIC Week is to highlight women
                                                                                                                                  as a visible component of the construction industry. It is an opportunity to celebrate, on a national level, all of
        WOMEN                                                                             IN                                      NAWIC began as Women in Construction of Fort Worth in 1953 by a group of 15 women to help create a support
                                                                                                                                  the successes women have had over the years and to emphasize the growing role of women in the industry.


                                                                                                                                  network for other women in the industry. This progressive group had the foresight to create an atmosphere
                                                                                                                                  where they could network and support each other professionally as well as personally. This support system
                                                                                                                                  gave them the confidence to reach for and achieve their goals. In 1955, they became the National Association
                                                                                                                                  of Women in Construction. Today, membership has grown to over 5,500 women with more than 160 chapters.

      CONSTRUCTION                                                                                                                NAWIC founded Women in Construction Week to give their organization an event to help bring women together.
                                                                                                                                  Decade over decade, the percentage of women in construction has increased with nearly 1 million women
                                                                                                                                  working in construction today. The industry has become more accepting of their non-traditional roles and
                                                                                                                                  women are advancing their careers through the industry as field staff, project supervisors, project managers,
                                                                                                                                  vice-presidents,  and  more.  Young  women  are  now  entering  college  with  a  passion  to  study  engineering,
                                                                                                                                  construction management, architecture, and everything in between. Women have become a strong contributor
                                                                                                                                  to the construction industry's workforce and there's many more to come.


                                                                                                                                  "WIC  is  one  week  out  of  the  year  that  we  call  out  the  women  we  know  and  work  with  to  honor  them,"
                                                                                                                                  said Jennifer VanBreda, WIC Week National Chair. "However, every day we should be looking to gain more
                                                                                                                                  momentum in this trend, keep gaining knowledge, bettering ourselves, and pushing forward to be the best we
                                                                                                                                  can be in our industry."
