Method
Form a carrick bend
(see pp. 136-137)
around its own
standing part (1). The
two free ends follow the
two diagonals of the
carrick bend, but with
the opposite weave
(2,3). All that then
remains is to work the
knot. To do this, pull the
loop ieft when the
carrick bend was
formed and the two free
ends smoothly and
slowly (4, 5). Make
sure that there is no
overlapping and that
the knot tightens evenly
and with its internal
order intact. Figure 6
shows the knot
completed, clearly
demonstrating the
admirably perfect
symmetry from which it
probably got its name.
