Tee Up Your Speech: Golf is Like Public Speaking

         Tip #8

         Know the

         rules of your

         course/venue.

Find out the rules of the day to avoid
         problems, confusion, or mistakes.

When playing golf, can you drive your
cart on the course that day? What is
the pin placement? Are you playing
“best ball,” and what does that mean?
Do you have a handicap? Understanding the rules will help you navigate.

For public speaking, where will you be situated? Is there a stage or lectern? Will they have a
microphone? What type of microphone? Will there be freedom to walk around the room? What are
they providing? Do you need to bring your own laptop? Will there be a break? Do you need your
own remote for your slides? Do you have any restrictions?

It's always best to ask questions ahead of time, so you are fully prepared for the specific
         engagement.
