değildim. Kitap yayımlandıktan sonra da çok tanınan bir yazar olmadım. Ondan dört yıl sonra, “Patasana” diye bir roman yayımladık. “Patasana”, ilk kez, en çok okunan- lar listesine giren kitabım oldu. Yılda 14-20 bin arası bir okur kitlesine ulaştı. Onun ardından gelen romanlarda, sadece polisiye değil, aynı zamanda polisiye ve tarih, bu toprakların tarihini anlatmaya başladım. Zaman geçtik- çe, okur kitlem bir çığ gibi büyümeye başladı. Bir çığ gibi derken, abartısız söylüyorum, milyonlarca okuyucuya ulaşan bir yazar haline geldim. Daha da ilginci, beni oku- mayan; ama tanıyan bir kitle oluştu. Hiç okumamış; ama televizyonda görüyor, tanıyor, seviyor... Böyle tuhaf bir şey oldu. İnsanlar beni niye seviyor bilmiyorum. Sokakta çevirip elimi sıkanlar, fotoğraf çektirenler ya da “Bu ye- mekten yeme, bu bozuk. Şundan ye.” diyenler, en iyi yere oturtanlar... Adeta, çok sevilen bir sinema oyuncusu ka- dar sevilmeye başlandığımı fark ettim. Genelde şöyle olur: Çok tanınırsınız; ama kitaplarınız okunmaz. Bende tam tersine, ikisi birbirini destekledi. Kitap okuyanlar da .benim fan kitlem de arttı. Okumayanlar okumaya başla- dı. Böylece, Türkiye’nin en çok okunan yazarlarından biri ya da yazarı oldum.

it was the phase of finding my own way. Now, that road is open and I am walk through. Now, there is an author who writes literary crime... I paved the way for it. I was not a well-known author, when “Fog and Night” was pub- lished. Thus, I did not become a well-known author after the book was published. Four years later, we published a novel called “Patasana”. “Patasana”, became my fist book that entered the list of bestsellers. It reached to approximately 14-20 thousand audiences a year. In the following novels, I began to tell not just the crime, but also history, the history of these lands. As the time went by, my audience began to grow like topsy. Literally, I be- came an author who reaches millions of readers. All the more amazing, there was an audience who did not read but still knew me. They never read; but they see, know, and like me on television... It’s been such a strange thing. I do not know why people love me. They turn around on the streets and shake my hand, take my photos or they say, “Do not eat this, it is rotten.”, and make me take the best seat. I realized that I began to be loved as much as a very popular actor. Generally, it is like this; you are very well known; but your books are not read. However, for me, these two things supported each other. Both the number of readers and fans increased. The readers, who did not read before, began to read. Thus, I became the most-read author of Turkey, or at least one of them.
You write literary crime and there are cross-fic-
tions, sociological-psychological analyzes and histori- cal events in it. In order to be able to write these books, one should not only know how to write, but also lots of other things. How do you work yourself up to a book?
