Standing with Israel, combating antisemitism
Thank you for your continued support for the work of Christians United for Israel UK. Together, we are blessing the Jewish people in Israel and standing up to the hatred of antisemitism here in the UK.
On 19 November 2023, CUFI had the privilege of being involved in a gathering of Christians and Jews outside 10 Downing Street in central London. This was an incredible event where likeminded individuals came together to show support for Israel, to call for the release of hostages held in Gaza by Hamas and to send a clear message that we stand against antisemitism in all its forms.
The event was organised by our friends at Christian Action Against Antisemitism with CUFI helping to promote the event and draw in Christians from around the country. There were thousands in attendance showing real unity for Israel. We felt a real sense of security whilst we were there, which is what we should expect in the heart of our capital at all times. Sadly, we have seen open hatred against Israel and even antisemitism on the streets of London from large anti-Israel protests. This Christian- led event was different. We felt God was in our midst as we gathered in the heart of the UK’s capital.
It was an honour for me to be able to speak at the event where I explained to the crowd how CUFI started in the UK amidst a spike in antisemitism following the 2014 Gaza War. It was then that we saw unprecedented levels of antisemitism, so we started our first campaign, “Christians Against Antisemitism.” Sadly, this campaign is
still running today. In fact, it’s more necessary now than it was 8 years ago following the barbarity of the Hamas attacks on 7th October. Too many have been willing to excuse Hamas’s war crimes and instead blame the Jews. This is antisemitism – Jew hatred. It is one of the oldest evils in the world and Christians need to stand up and speak out whenever this evil rears its ugly head. The time for Christians to stand up and be counted is now. As the title of the rally declared, ‘Never Again Is Now’.
I explained to those gathered that I often wondered
what I would have done if I had been alive during the Holocaust. Would I have followed the crowd? Would I have been intimidated into silence by the angry mobs on the streets and done nothing? Or would I have been one of those few Righteous Gentiles who stood up and spoke out? It is a challenge to all of us. In our lifetime, we have an opportunity to find out what we are made of. It is time for the Righteous Gentiles to arise.
The Jewish people are experiencing their darkest hour since the Holocaust, and they need to know they will always have our support.
We know that the Holocaust started with words. Those words led to actions which resulted in the slaughter of 6 million Jews. When anti-Israel protesters chant “From the River to the Sea,” it is not just a slogan, those words can invoke fear and promote hatred. As the Bible says, life and
