Purpose
The extra rim parts or bights make this Turk’s head suitable for a flattened layout
as a mat, badge or decorative motif, a floor mat (in rope) or a table mat or
coaster (in smaller stuff). Tied in gold or silver cord, it makes a neat
embellishment to the uniforms of marching bands—or it could be framed and
hung as a picture on a wall.
Tying
Lay out and tuck as shown (figures 1–2), bringing the working end around to lie
alongside and parallel to the standing part (figure 3). Follow the lead around a
second and third time. Fix the cut ends on the underside of the knot by either
sewing, gluing them or (in the case of synthetic cordage) heat-sealing them
together.
