TURK’S HEAD (5 lead x 4 bight)

               Purpose

This is a slightly bigger and more elaborate knot—but still a square Turk’s head,
that is one in which the number of leads and bights only differs by one. It makes

a handsome, secure whipping for a rope’s end, or a decorative collar over any

other foundation for which the basic 3L x 4B knot is too skimpy.

               Tying

Wrap, tuck and weave as shown (figures 1–5), bringing the working end back
alongside the standing part. Follow the original lead around as many times as

necessary to fill in the spaces within the open texture of the initial knot (figure
               6).
