              Recollections on Visits to
              MOES department of NSYSU
              since 2006

September 2005 I came for the first

In ime together with my then colleague
Dr. A. Trampert to NSYSU in Kaohsiung to attend an International Conference on Defects in Semiconductors,

organized by Prof Mitch Chou (MOES Department). We had a delay in our connection flight with Dragon Air
from Hongkong due to a typhoon in southern Taiwan and we arrived late at the Grand Hi-Lai hotel, which we
had booked for our accommodation during the conference. I vividly remember the devastation caused by the
heavy storm around the swimming pool on the topmost floor of the hotel.

The welcome reception for the participants was held in the garden of the Sunset Beach hotel next to the

campus, we had interesting conference contributions and discussions, and we had a conference dinner
              with delicious food.

Just after the conference, I presented an additional lecture at the MOES Department for a broader
audience. Following the discussions related to my lecture and to the specific research subjects of our

institute in Berlin, I was asked by Prof. N.J. Ho (at that time the Director of the Center for Nanoscience
and Nanotechnology) to become a visiting Professor at NSYSU for the next couple of years.

In March 2006 I visited the MOES Department for a few days to clarify details of the arrangement of
visiting professor at NSYSU with Prof. N.J. Ho and his colleagues.

In spring 2007 I started my first term as visiting Professor at NSYSU in the MOES department, where I

was welcomed by the overwhelming hospitality of many professors, including Prof Ho, Prof. Chou, Prof.
