Alistair’s Toodyay/Northam/York Ride 3 July
The heated grips went on as soon as I left home as the temperature hovered around 5 degrees. Six riders
(Brian, Jim, Mark, Ross, Eric and myself) met at Maccas for the morning pre ride coffee and discussion.
Nothing complicated today, up the freeway, Burns Beach Rd and through to Bindoon via Neaves
Rd.
Through Chittering Valley which is looking at its best this time of the year.
Right on to Julimar and in to Toodyay for a warming coffee and food at the bakery.
Interesting that the Coke Cafe was nearly empty and some reports suggest the service / food has declined
from it’s by gone glory days.
Brian’s bike failed to turn right on to Julimar Rd (not sure where he went!) consequently he was absent at
our coffee stop.
Mark was also a noticeable absentee at this stage.
One clue, we passed a police car on Julimar going in the opposite direction.
Ten minutes later Mark arrived, and yes, as we thought, Mark stopped to have a chat with the friendly
men in the police car!
During our coffee on the bakery balcony Brian cruised by, however, didn’t stop!
Eric needed to get home so headed off as the rest of us rode to Northam and on to York.
Six is now down to four. Mark stopped in York while the remaining three headed home via the Lakes.
A cool/cold but beautiful sunny morning for our 280k ride and home in time to see the Eagles lose and the
Dockers win - a perfect day!
Thanks Eric and Mark for TEC duties.
