19 October 2022* Destination: Bulga
The day didn’t start particularly well.
There had been some rain overnight and
I saw some light rain in the morning of
the ride. By the time we got to Hexham,
the McDonalds carpark was wet, but the
sky was looking a bit better. The recent
weather has had many ups and downs
recently, so we could not be confident of
staying dry.
We started the day with 8 people on a
similar number of motorcycles. Because
several trucks were trying to get out at
the same time, it would take us a number
of traffic light cycles just to get on to
Maitland Road, but we eventually all
managed to get out at once.
After turning down John Renshaw Drive, we diverted through Minmi and followed George Booth Drive into East
Maitland. After crossing Maitland Road, we headed toward Bolwarra and then followed the road through to our
morning tea stop at Vacy.
After an excellent morning tea, we headed toward Gresford and then turned toward Singleton. The traffic was
light until we arrived in Singleton itself. It was busy there, but once out of town we were back up to touring
speed for the rest of the run into Bulga.
The Bulga Tavern was relatively empty when we arrived. We had made a booking which we didn’t really need,
as it is much quieter there during the week. We sat out the front, under cover where we had a very good lunch
and a chat.
After lunch we left as a group and went through Milbrodale, Broke, Lovedale and Kurri before people started to
break off and find their own way home.
All in all, it was a very good day to go
for a ride. There was no rain and the
roads were mostly not too bad.
There were some very rough
sections of road though. You really
need to keep your eyes open these
days.
Thanks to those who turned up and
thanks also to Mick Dawson who
was Tail End Charlie for the day,
cunningly disguised as Joe Rider.
