17 November 2021 * Destination: Denman
We had seven people at Hexham in the
morning ready to embark on the mystery
ride for the day. The destination was
affected by some road closures, notable
Maitland Vale Road and some difficulties
finding stops that were open. The café at
Bulga seems to be closed at the moment
and it is unclear if or when it will reopen.
We were going to Denman and after the
rider briefing, we set off and headed down
John Renshaw drive toward Kurri Kurri.
After rolling through Kurri, we attempted
to cross the railway line and go through
towards Lovedale. Unfortunately, we
discovered that Mitchell Avenue had been
closed near the railway crossing due to a factory fire that had occurred the previous Sunday
afternoon. We could see smoke still coming from the building, so the fire brigade had not yet
completely extinguished the fire several days later.
After a little diversion, we continued through to Lovedale, Pokolbin and our morning tea stop at
Broke. The facilities at Broke have been improved since the last time I was there. There is now a
nice shelter, with a table and some chairs which were quite good.
After morning tea we headed off toward
the Golden Highway, and on to Jerry’s
Plains. From there we took the back road
through the farmland at Bureen. The land
there was very lush, so clearly they had
experienced plenty of rain recently. Once
in Denman we went to the Royal Hotel for
lunch. The hotel was quite busy and the
owner told us that business was almost
back to normal
After a good lunch and the usual
discussion, some refueled their bikes and
we set off home this time following the
highway to Jerrys plains and then going
back through Broke and Kurri Kurri.
It had been a good day for those who attended. It was cloudy and a bit cool in the morning, but the
weather was kind to us and we all had a good day out. John L
