The Tip (Pajinka)
It’s often said, “it’s more about the journey than the
destination”.
However, there is an exception, and that is the Tip.
And, they might have a point too. When you look at those grins
of folk on Pajinka or gathered around the sign there’s no way of
knowing whether they’ve had the most adventurous 4WD trip
ever navigating the tracks and crossings up, flown in, boated in,
ridden, walked or simply driven up the corrugations of the PDR,
Telegraph, Bamaga and Pajinka Roads. The faces say it all!
Everyone has a story to tell, and for most the culmination is
that awesome feeling when you’re standing at the Tip looking
northward towards York and Eborac Islands and saying “Yep,
I’ve done it!” Doesn’t matter whether it’s the first or the
twentieth time – that euphoric rush just grabs you!
Getting there is a 45-minute drive from BP Bamaga on the red
dirt to Frangipani Bay. There’s a choice of three tracks to get
you to the Tip.
The first is directly up and over the rock face, the second, which
can only be reached at low tide, involves a walk along the
beach past the mangroves, and the third sees you walking the
high side of the mangroves. Many prefer the beach or
mangrove walk up and the rocky path down.
For the fishos out there, it’s not a bad place to wet a line –
there’s definitely kudos for those that have landed a fish at the
Tip.
Congratulations…You’ve
Made It!!!!
