Where to Stay
Weipa is not short of places to stay, however, if camping’s your
thing there’s only one place - Weipa Camping Ground. There’s also
plenty of hotel and motel type arrangements to be had.
Weipa Camping Ground
Weipa Camping Ground is set in park-like surroundings right on the
beach - the afternoon sunsets provide a perfect backdrop for a
picnic on the grass or a walk along the sand. The tropical pool with
its waterfall provides a cool option for all those wanting to get out
of the heat, and a much safer option than swimming at the beach,
especially with all the local marine life – crocodiles being the first
to come to mind.
Brooke - your hostess with the mostest - is a Cape York girl
through and through. Brooke grew up with one set of grandparents
on Lilyvale Station, and the other on Watson River Station – there
is little she doesn’t know about the Cape.
Barramunchies, one of Weipa’s favourite takeaway venues, can be
found within the Weipa campground and is open between 5pm and
8pm. You won’t be disappointed in the burgers or the seafood and,
of course, there’s something for the kids. There’s nothing better
than great food on the beach while watching the sun go down.
