the inland Mulligan Highway, spearing off at the Mossman-Mt
Molloy Road (aka the Rex Range).
Daintree Village is the jumping off point for the CREB track, with
Cape Tribulation - via the Daintree Ferry - the jumping off point for
the Bloomfield Track.
Cape Tribulation
Cape Tribulation - a laid-back coastal village nestled in the
rainforest – will bring you to the southern end of the Bloomfield
Track.
Before heading off, take some time to look around ‘Cape Trib’, as
it’s known by the locals, and even spend a night or two. It’s one of
the few easily accessible locales where the rainforest meets the
reef.
Bloomfield Track
The Bloomfield Track today is an unsealed coastal road running
from Cape Tribulation to Wujal Wujal and, in the right conditions,
can be easily tackled by 2WD vehicles.
Occasionally steep, but easy, it’s a 32km drive suitable for all 4WDs
and camper trailers (and 2WDs much of the time). Originally an
Aboriginal walking track, then a packhorse track; it is now a road
with concrete on the steeper sections and some creek crossings,
and regularly maintained throughout the dry. You will catch rare
glimpses of the ocean, however, most of the track sees you winding
through magnificent rainforest. The best idea is to take your time
and just enjoy it!
The Douglas Shire Council website provides information on road
closures and road conditions.
