Can I Bring My Dog?
Of course. It will prevent you from spending any time camping
in National Parks and they will have to stay tied up while in
campgrounds. It won’t prevent you from doing the OTT,
however, you won’t be able to camp at Eliot Creek. Some of the
stations lay baits so keep an eye out for the signs when letting
your dog out for a pit stop – see page 155.
Alcohol Restrictions
Most communities on Cape York have some sort of alcohol
restriction, these can be found at

Going to the Toilet in the Bush?
You’re going to need a shovel. Dig yourself a deep hole and
then after doing whatever you’ve ‘gotta’ do, burn your toilet
paper, and ladies, learn to ‘drip dry’ - it’s not that bad.
MAPP Gas (available at your local hardware store) is great for
nuking toilet paper - there is nothing nastier than pulling up to
camp only to find you’re surrounded by other’s ‘leftovers’ - and
is terrific for lighting your mandatory campfire particularly when
it’s a bit damp.
Portaloos are becoming more user-friendly - an option to
consider.
