Both the Bloomfield and CREB tracks will bring you out onto the
Bloomfield Road near Wujal Wujal. As you continue north toward
the Mulligan Highway and Cooktown enjoy the winding, scenic
           drive through the tropical rainforest.

           Lions Den Hotel
41km from Wujal Wujal brings you to the legendary Lions Den
Hotel, a pub with history dating back to 1875 - noted for serving
up a good feed and great entertainment.
Accommodation: Powered and unpowered sites, safari tents and
           dongas
           Facilities: Toilet/shower block, restaurant, bar
If Cooktown’s not on your itinerary, heading west on the Mulligan
Highway will bring you to Lakeland and the start of the Peninsula
Development Road (PDR). See page 23 – Getting to the Tip via the
           Peninsula Development Road
           Archer Point
Once on the Mulligan Highway (heading north towards Cooktown),
a further 10km will bring you to the Archer Point turn off, where
you’ll find a free camping spot with plenty of room to spread out.
Even if the plan is not to stay overnight, it’s worth the drive up to
the lighthouse to take in the spectacular panoramic views.

           Black Mountain (Kalkajaka) NP
24km south of Cooktown along the Mulligan Highway is the sinister
looking and mysterious Black Mountain, part of the Trevathan
range. Steeped in legend and mystery Kalkajaka, meaning ‘spear’,
was the site of many clashes between coastal and inland
           indigenous groups over hunting grounds.

In more recent times there are stories of folk venturing in amongst
the boulder strewn landscape never to be seen again. Hidden by
that rugged surface are caves, tunnels and caverns that are
purported to have swallowed up explorers, cattlemen, horses, and
livestock without leaving a trace. Few would volunteer to be the
next one to go in there.
