           Waterfalls - Cooktown & Surrounds
Most of us love our waterfalls and although the Cape is full of
them, Cooktown offers three close-by beauties, so while you are in
the area take some time out to enjoy…

               ● Trevathan Falls
The least known of the three are the beautiful Trevathan Falls, not
far from Cooktown. Drive 19km back along the Mulligan Highway
and take the Mount Amos Rd for another 10km – look for the
handwritten sign pointing the way to the falls track. A 4WD is
required to get to the top carpark.

               ● Endeavour Falls
A half hour (31km) drive along the Endeavour Valley Road brings
you to the Endeavour Tourist Park and the pleasant walking track
leading down to the falls. For a relax, look and listen it is certainly
           worth the visit.

               ● Isabella Falls
41km from Cooktown and only 15 minutes on from Endeavour Falls
are the ever-popular Isabella Falls. Follow Battlecamp Road - you
won’t miss them; they offer an always welcome opportunity for a
           cooling dip.
           To The Top
Now, to continue the journey up the Cape there are a couple of
choices. Take the 81km run along the Mulligan Highway to
Lakeland and pick up the Peninsular Development Road (PDR), or
take the 75km, predominately unsealed, Battlecamp Road through
           to the Old Laura Homestead.

Once at the Homestead, you can choose to drive the 27km to
Laura and pick up the PDR or take the 165km Lakefield Road
(unsealed), joining the PDR at Musgrave roadhouse.
The Old Laura Homestead was progressively built from 1902. With
its timber frame, corrugated iron cladding, and the adjacent
outbuildings it’s one of the few intact station constructions on the
Cape from that period. It’s nestled beside the Laura River, with
good camping nearby. Permits must be purchased through
Queensland National Parks if you intend overnighting.
