Pseudochazara mniszechii (Herrich-Schäffer, [1851]) Tawny Rockbrown
Pseudochazara mniszechii in the Levant is known only
from the Amanos Mts., S Turkey, were it is common. Fly
in dry rocky areas (Atahan et al., 2018: 86), on 24 June

in open clearings of black pine forest (DB & Ofir Tomer
pers. obs.), reported by Tuzov et al., (1997(1): 256)

/LIH KLVWRU\ univoltine, the eggs are laid singly and are
white, barrel-shaped with 20 vertical ribs. L1 hatches
after 8-10 days, ca 2 mm long, light brown with sparse
white hairs and a dark mid-dorsal strip. The larvae feed
at night. During the day they hide at the base of the LHP.
The mature larva is chunky, 27-30 mm long. greyish-
brown, with mid-dorsal line of black segments, sub-
dorsal whitish bands with tiny reddish short strips and
longitudinal side bluish-grey broad strips, four of them
proceed on the forehead. The short tails are off-white.
Pupation takes place a few cm below surface in soft soil.
The pupa is light reddish-brown. The adult eclosed after
4 weeks (Hesselbarth et al., 1995(2): 959).

Distributed from N. Greece to Turkey, S Georgia,
Armenia and N Iran (Nazari, 2003: 340), (absent from
Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Cyprus, Jordan and Sinai). The
nominotypical ssp. flies in the Levant.
