THE PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS
Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Advocates,
I am honored to address you today as the National President of the
National Association of Black Women in Construction, Inc. (NABWIC) in
our 2023 Congressional Black Caucus Reception program booklet. As
we gather here, united by our shared vision of empowerment and equity,
I want to reflect on the incredible journey we have embarked on over
the past year and our unwavering commitment to being the "voice of
black women in construction."
Our journey began with the phenomenal annual meeting in Orlando,
Florida, in January 2023, where we converged to network and strategize
the implementation of critical strategic actions. We recognized that our
strength lies in our unity, and in Orlando, we laid the foundation for
transformative change.
In June 2023, we were hosted by our budding Newark, NJ chapter in
Newark, New Jersey, for our midyear meeting. It was a time not only for
networking but also for productive business meetings and even mindful
yoga. We are not just about building structures; we also prioritize the
well-being and growth of our members.
One of the most exciting developments of this year was the addition of
our fearless leader and founder, Ms. Ann Mceneill, to the Equity in
Infrastructure Advisory Board. This milestone signifies our role as
champions for change and advocates for equitable contracting
opportunities for black women in construction and the communities we
serve.
Throughout the year, we proudly hosted NABWIC Virtual Billion Dollar
Luncheons in the Transportation, Aviation, and Water industries. These
events opened doors to billions of dollars in contracting opportunities,
valuable relationships, and extensive networking opportunities. We also
recognized trailblazing women within the industry with our Women in
Spotlight award, celebrating their outstanding contributions.
Our mission remains unwavering, and we are committed to leveraging
strategic partnerships with USDOT, EIP, AMAC, NABHOOD, and many
others to advocate for equitable access to contract opportunities.
Together, we are forging a path toward equitable growth and economic
opportunities across our nation.
