SAMPLE CHAPTER
Adriana’s Second Semester
“I can honestly say that I’ve actually missed
school,” Emelia said as Adriana parked her car in one
of the student parking lots. As her thoughts centered on
little Ureakay, she knew she could never miss school as
much as she would miss him.
It only seemed like yesterday when little Ureakay
was born. Emelia couldn’t help but think about the day
she watched her newborn peer through brand new
eyes at what must have been a strange world after life
in the womb. She recalled how frightened she was to
pick him up as if she might break him. Now, after a few
months, little Ureakay could stretch his hands above
his head and sport the most charming smile for a six-
month-old toddler.
”I agree.” Adriana responded. “Are you comfort-
able with the daycare in which we enrolled little Ureak-
ay?”
“For the most part, Mrs. Joyce is a lovely person,
and Ureakay likes her, and that says a lot,” she replied.
”Did you see the way he smiled at her when Mrs.
Joyce smiled at him?” Adriana asked.
“Yes, that was so cute,” Emelia said as she reflect-
ed once again on Ureakay’s smile, which was as sweet
as a summer strawberry and filled Emelia with a burst of
sunshine she never knew existed in the world.
With young Ureakay still in their thoughts, Emelia
and Adriana found their way through the familiar halls
to their perspective classrooms.
