pause, Steven continued. “It’s just that I’ve been ask-
ing myself a lot lately, is God pleased with the choices
we’ve made? Is he okay with the lifestyle that we’re in-
volved in?”
Peter imploringly responded, “But God ordained
this.”
Steven said, ”No, Peter, I’m not sure that God agrees
with this lifestyle. Did God create a man and a wom-
an to dwell together as one? Did President Williams die
without a cause? Was her death in vain? Peter, I want a
son and a daughter, and I can’t give you that; neither
can you give me that.”
Peter said, “But I thought that we decided that we
were going to adopt, remember?”
Steven looked at the floor as tears streamed down
his face, “But it’s not the same as having your biological
children Peter. I’m sorry, Peter, but things just aren’t the
same anymore.”
Peter was stunned by Steven’s admission.
Before Steven, he had always considered alternative
lovers.
But he had chosen to remain faithful to Steven;
there was nev- er a plan B. With a tone of frustration, Pe-
ter roughly asked, “So what are you telling me?”
Steven continued to weep.
“And to think of ll the years I’ve invested in this mar-
riage,
Peter said fiercely.
Steven turned with that serious look that still held his
trademark warm eyes. He dried the tears from his face,
“I’ve invested years in this marriage as well,” he said.
Peter glared at Steven as if he were his gravest
enemy. There was no trace of tears, not in his eyes or
the track marks on his reddening face. He narrowed his
eyes. And in a rigid, cold, stern manner, he responded,
“But not as I have. To think of all of the men I’ve passed
up just so that I could be faithful to you and build a fam-
