UPDATES FROM THE BRUCE LEE HOCKEY LEAGUE
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, all activities abruptly slowed to a crawl, sports, restaurants, businesses, and many more.
Last March with the introductions of life saving vaccines, one organization started a process to encourage people to get
vaccinated so they might get vaccinated and begin to restore some normalcy to our lives. CARHA the Canadian Adult
Recreation Hockey Association, began a promotion called The Next Stride, a programme where people could nominate others
who got their vaccination and then were able to keep their programmes going.
Brad Watson, the Madoc Arena Manager, nominated Harold and Karen Bailey of the Bruce Lee House League Hockey as they
were able to keep the BLHL running even though cramped by the Covid Protocol. CARAH then chose 3 winners from the
applications for the months of June, July and August and the winners received $ 500. In Sept the 9 winners went head to head
for the $ 10.000 grand prize. This time the winner was selected by a nation wide vote using supporters email address. You had
    1 vote per email submitted.
The BLHL asked the public for their support and to share the info on facebook and did our support ever come through. Heard
of people being able to vote several times using different emails. We would like to thank CARHA for promoting THE NEXT
STRIDE competition and to all who voted, because of CARHA and our supporters, we were able to win the grand prize and
bring $ !0,000 home that we plan to use for youth activities in the Central Hastings area. Although we can use the $ 10,000 for
our purposes, we have decided to spread some winnings to other youth activities in the area. Our first donation from CARHA
and you people through the BLHL went to the Centre Hastings Minor Hockey Association with a check for $ 2000 to
president of CHMHA Crystal Julia. More donations will follow shortly to the Eldorado softball association, The new Swimming
pool committee, a side bar of the BLHL for ball hockey, dances and maybe other youth related activities, and finalizing plans
to add 1 more organization. Thank you CARHA and our supporters.
