WHY DOCUMENTATION IS IMPORTANT TO YOUR BUSINESS AND LOVED ONES
In early January this year a good friend and business associate passed away and left no documentation for
his business. One never knows when one is going to pass, things happen quickly and when they do, it’s
hard enough to deal with, but not knowing how to deal with closing a business down or preparing it for
sale can be frustrating.
Documentation plays an essential role in ensuring your businesses success during and after. This is the
framework your business is built on and having exceptional documentation gives substance to the
workplace activities as it keeps your office running systematically, ethically and provides standards to a workplace. The five
main components of documentation in the workplace consist of Training, Procedures, Safety and Audits and Death.
Over the years I ask my clients about “What If”. What happens to your business when you pass away. Can your family or
executor make heads and tails of your business. Do they know where to find all your documentation that tells them how to
run your business, or better yet your passwords to all the software you use, social media, email account or just getting on
your computer. Who have you told where to find this information?
Every business large or small has a lot of information that needs to be documented and kept safe. This is so important as a
business owner, because there is nothing more frustrating to an executor and family when they need to close the business
or try and sell it. It is said that 80% of business owners do not have their documentation in order. If this is you, connect
with me, I can guide you through the process. With over 25 years of business documentation experience, you will learn
how to prepare for “What If” and keeping it current.
In today’s world, to assume documentation is a waste of time greatly diminishes the importance of clarifying important
issues and goals within your business and life.
