GEORGE LOGAN, LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER, REMEMBERED AS 'SUPPORT LOCAL' ADVOCATE
As 2024 begins, we're remembering a longtime resident of Tweed who passed away on January 8, 2024. George Logan, an
Actinolite resident and the founder of Actinolite Graphics was a huge supporter of shopping local. George’s family, friends,
business and supporting local was a huge part of his outlook in business and in life.
George was always ready to have a conversation about arts, politics, community and his business. George loved being in
the community and talking to local business owners, participating with events and sitting on many community boards. His
influence and encouragement for new business owners was incredible. He loved sharing his trade and sharing his
experience as an owner and encouraging “Support Local”.
George was a member of two local chambers, sat on both boards at one time and was a very active member. George was so
proud to be apart of the advocating team for the Madoc & District Chamber. His passion for keeping up with the pollical
world both in Canada and USA made him a strong advocate for the Central Hastings business community.
Chamber members recall George as an " idealist and a doer" whose entrepreneurial spirit and endless generosity left its
mark on Central Hastings. Central Hastings lost a great friend and much-loved member of our community, for those who
were blessed to have known and loved him, knew he never lost his love and support for his hometown. Tweed4Ever.
What Is Happening With Actinolite Graphics?
Actinolite Graphics will stay in the area with a new owner who will be keeping the business name in honoring George and
all the years of service he provided to the Central Hastings communities. New owner Shari Pearce, will be reaching out to
Actinolite clients over the next month, clients will continue to receive the exceptional service and rates that George
provided. Contact information will stay the same, location will be north of Madoc but will have a drop off location in
Tweed. Shari will have everything up and running by mid month.
REMEMBERING MY FRIEND
How I saw George. George was a special friend who was a quiet , reserved , shy man who had a great outlook on life. He
gave so much to us all. George put a lot of work into many organizations such as the Madoc Chamber Of Commerce and
the Tweed Historical Society.
We served on many boards together over the years. In his personal life, as I got to know him, George had interests that
many never knew such as a love for wildlife and birds. He also loved to fish , but said he could not catch anything in the
river by his house. He was interested in old antique cars and he would ask me if I wanted to accompany him to which I
would reply , yes, as I was interested as well. He also loved to attend events at Actinolite Marble Church Theatre as being
the owner of Actinolite Graphics, George produced many projects for them.
George told me that he wished he could dance but never knew how or had time to learn. I said that was not a problem and
that I could teach him. I taught him so well that when he invited me to go with him as a partner , he would not sit down ,
but wanted to dance to every set. Then he would complain on phone next day curious as to why his legs and feet hurt him ?
I would laugh and told him , he did not have to dance every set. George loved to travel when he could and had special
memories of his parents and grandparents.
Tweed and Area lost a lot when they lost George. He will be missed and hard to replace. I will forever treasure the
friendship we shared and I will miss you my friend. Now go and Rest In Peace until we meet again.
