Response to hostage standoff earns CPMF award

A July 2017 hostage situation-turned-standoff on the City’s Northwest Side involved an armed man who opened fire on police.
It also involved four Chicago Police Officers who were able
to safely evacuate a woman and her child before confronting the defiant man who tried to flee police in a quickly deterio- rating situation. For their actions, they were among a group of eight that earned the Chicago Police Memorial Founda- tion’s Officers of the Month awards for May.
