Officer Jermaine Evans, Star #13843
Officer Martin Kordas, Star #16910
Officer Jacob Schultz, Star #19635
On May 12, Officer Daniel Murphy was arriving for his first-watch shift in the 8th District when he observed a building at 3351 W. 63rd engulfed in flames. Officer Murphy ran into the 8th district, grabbed a radio and ran toward the burning building, alerting OEMC to get the CFD rolling.
BT 865A Officers Jermaine Evans, Mar- tin Kordas and Jacob Schultz arrived on
scene and began banging on the indus- trial doors, trying to gain entry with Of- ficer Murphy.
The officers tried the front and rear doors in vain but continued to yell and knock, finally rousing a tenant who had been asleep. The tenant advised the of- ficers that two more occupants were in- side still sleeping. The officers entered the building, located the tenants who were unaware that the building was on
fire and escorted both of them to safety. These officers’ bravery, quick response and teamwork resulted in saving the lives of three Chicago citizens. Their actions actions reflect the finest traditions of the CPD.
It is with great appreciation that the Fraternal Order of Police Chicago Lodge 7 presents Officers Daniel Murphy, Jer- maine Evans, Martin Kordas and Jacob Schultz with Life Saving Awards.
