STEP 2: Make a wash with Plantation Pine. Use the palm- er brush to apply the wash all over the top of the canvas. While wet, use the spray bottle and mist a little rubbing alcohol high over the surface. Then quickly use the pipette to add larger drops of alcohol here and there. Let dry. Do not force dry.
STEPS 3 and 4: Make a wash of Deep Midnight Blue. Use the palmer brush to apply the wash all over the green layer. While wet, use the spray bottle and mist a little rub- bing alcohol high over the surface. Then quickly use the pipette to add larger drops of alcohol here and there. Let dry. Do not force dry.
If needed, add another layer of Deep Midnight Blue and alcohol.
TROUBLESHOOTING: If the alcohol is not reacting with your washes, two things are possible: 1) the washes were too heavy, or 2) the washes had time to dry before you applied the alcohol. If you’re not happy with your results, re-apply the tinted gesso and start over. No harm done.
NOTE: The alcohol will have softened the gesso and paint layers. It’s easy to scratch or nick the background. Please allow your project to dry thoroughly. Use a blow dryer once the washes are completely dry.
OPTIONAL: To protect your background at this stage you may apply a coat of DecoArt Glazing Medium to your surface. Allow this isolation coat to dry completely before proceeding.
