NOTE: Do not paint the centers and stamens until all of the leaves have been completed.
CENTERS
BASECOAT: BasecoatwithEnglishYellow+Olive(3:1)to create a yellow/green mid-value. Dry.
Apply a fine layer of Extender over center and apply shade and highlights.
SHADE: Place a crescent shape, using Carbon Black, in the lower left of center. Stipple, using your flat brush, to soften the edges and to create some texture.
LIGHT: Cream+English Yellow (1:tch) HIGHLIGHT: Pure White+Light Mix above (1:tch)
Basecoat the entire turn or flip of the petal using the Light Area Mix.
SHADE: Using one of the darker values of the petals and a good deal of water, place a wash of color across the bot- tom of the turn. Remember – no harsh lines of color. HIGHLIGHT: Use a liner brush and the Highlight Mix used earlier to place it on the top edge of the turn, keeping it in the brightest area.
TINTS AND ACCENTS
Use a mixture of English Yellow+Emperior’s Silk (1:1).
Remember that these are located primarily around the center of interest area. Keep them a little on the quiet side – not too bright.
