 SMALL BACKGROUND LEAVES
These are the small unmarked leaves on the lined drawing. BASECOAT: MixCream+Blue-Greenmid-valuetomakeaValue5 base mixture.
SHADE: Carbon Black, keeping it transparent and light by using enough water.
HIGHLIGHT: Cream+Pure White (1:tch)
STEMS AND VEINS
Using the chisel edge of the brush and the light value of each color setup, gently place the veins on the leaves, using Extender as the medium.
Using Extender and your liner brush, place all of the stems as shown on the lined drawing. Highlight as necessary using the liner brush and Cream+Extender.
FINISHING
I chose to use four coats of Final Coat Low Gloss Varnish over the decorated area. I love the luster and the protection it gives a finished project. I then applied Clear Wax to the sides and bottom for addi- tional protection.
I hope that you find a little suitcase of your own to paint! See the Show and Tell article on page 11 to see how I painted this clematis design on a baby grand piano.

In June of 1972, Judy Duarte walked into a local shop called “The Tall Mouse” where her 45-year love affair with decorative painting began. Before she knew it, she was painting floors, walls and ceilings along with breadboxes and tables. Since then she has published four books in America, one in Japan and has over 200 design packets. Next, she opened a shop called the “Painted Pony.”
Travel-teaching became another love of her life, teaching nationally as well as at conventions. Judy was one of the first of our Society to travel to Japan on two occasions to teach. This September, Judy opened “Brush & Palette,” a studio offering decorative painting classes in St. George, Utah. If you are in the area, come by and say hi. Brush & Palette: 103 N.
