FRUIT: Basecoat oranges Burnt Orange, pears Antique Green, and apples Santa Red.
Apply detailed pattern. I recommend using the blue transfer paper on Santa’s face and on the dove. Use the white transfer paper on everything else.
Unless otherwise noted, all shading and highlighting is done using classic sideload or floating technique using flat or angle brushes. Remember that shaded areas are those that recede, are behind or in tight spots. Highlights are areas that advance (like Santa’s nose and fronts of fingers) or are catch- ing or reflecting light. Refer to photos for clarification.
DETAILS
COAT: Using Navy Blue, shade edges of coat and where arms bend, under sack and sleeves and beard, behind staff and belt and along trim and fur. Using Lamp (Ebony) Black, deepen shadows under arms and in the darkest areas. Highlight with Snow (Titanium) White using dry-brush in lightest areas and top of arms.
FUR: Using a stiff, scruffy brush, stipple all fur with Light Cinnamon. In less area, stipple fur again using Sable Brown. In even less area, stipple with Raw Umber. Dry. Using side- load technique, shade fur at edges with Raw Umber. Fi- nally, stipple with just a bit of Snow (Titanium) White in all fur areas. Deepen any shadowed areas with Lamp (Ebony) Black sideloads.
