SHIRT SLEEVE: Using liner and thinned Antique Green, paint stripes on shirt sleeve. Shade with Midnite Green and then Lamp (Ebony) Black.
GLOVES: Basecoat heart on glove with Peony Pink. Shade heart with Santa Red. Paint comma-strokes with Antique Green and shade with Hauser Dark Green. Us- ing Cranberry Wine, paint “1” strokes across glove, as pictured, mimicking stitch lines to give it a knitted look. Using Deep Burgundy, shade gloves between fingers and around all sides in darkest areas. Using dry-brush of Snow (Titanium) White, highlight tops of fingers and knuckles. PANTS: Using thinned Snow (Titanium) White with tad of Santa Red, paint zigzag pattern on pants. Using Deep Burgundy, shade the pleats, cuff and edges of each pant leg. Deepen shadow with Lamp (Ebony) Black.
COAT TRIM: Using liner brush and thinned Santa Red (if you painted your trim a red color, choose a color other than Santa Red for the design), paint swirl design with dots. Shade with Lamp (Ebony) Black and highlight with dry-brush down center of Snow (Titanium) White.
ROPE BELT: Using liner brush and thinned Light Mocha, paint thin form-following lines in each individual rope section. Shade with Burnt Umber.
STAFF: Using liner brush and thinned Burnt Umber, paint graining in wood, including knot. Shade with Raw Umber. Highlight with dry-brush of Snow (Titanium) White down center of staff and across top.
CARDINAL: Using Lamp (Ebony) Black, paint the “mask” section of face and line in the nostril and separate beaks. With small flat brush sideload a shade next to face. Using Deep Burgundy and sideload method, shade the under- belly and under wings and along tail, separating feathers. Using Snow (Titanium) White with tad of Santa Red and liner brush, stroke a few thin highlights on top of head, chest and along tips of feathers and faintly outline the eye. Using Cadmium Yellow and sideload technique, add high- lights on tip of head and tips of feathers and center of belly. BLUE BIRDS: Using Lamp (Ebony) Black, paint “mask” around eye area, shade under wings and separate feathers, dot the nostril and separate upper and lower beaks. With small flat brush, sideload a shade next to face. Using True Blue and liner brush, paint individual feathers. Using Snow
