2014 SDP CAnDIDATES
What are your specific qualifications for this position? BoARD MEMBER-AT-LARGE CAnDiDATE
My qualifications for board member-at-large are a keen interest in and great love for SDP and its continued strong health. Because I have been a business member, teacher, student, MDA, and chapter president I believe I have a significant understanding of various aspects of the Society and could represent the views of these groups well.
List any additional information that may provide support for your qualifications for this position.
Along with my love for painting, I currently volunteer for the Salvation Army Food Bank program, serve on the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver Alumni Board, teach painting classes, and volunteer for the Denver Art Museum.
What are your goals and vision for the society?
My vision for the Society is for it to continue to be the central source of information, inspiration, and publicity for decorative painting in the world. The Society should be a source of support for all its members and provide encouragement toward excellence in the field of painting.

I am a founding member of Quebec Academy of Decorative Painting (APDQ); I’ve served as vice president and treasurer, in charge of teaching at chapter convention and supervised Make-It-Take-It, and served as events and class organizer.
What are your specific qualifications for this position?
For over fifteen years, I have worked with nonprofit organizations. I was the owner/operator of an accounting (bookkeeping) business for small enterprises from 1984 through 1998. I currently own and operate a Social Art Working and art studio.
List any additional information that may provide support for your qualifications for this position.
I have taught elementary school art classes for over fifteen years. I have held the general manager position for a nonprofit business association. I have organized events
in the municipal world, and was awarded special honors for launching the Gatineau Main Street Soapbox races
in 2004 by the City of Gatineau. I also have college-level training in event planning.
What are your goals and vision for the society?
My goal is to broaden the exposure of the members to different cultures and styles of painting, and to learn from others about painting approaches, and to help the “internal” business organization.

I was a member of the Public Relations and Marketing Committee in 2011 and 2012.
Chapter involvement:
I am a member of the Western Colorado Decorative Painters and have served in various capacities, including newsletter editor (1982–1984, 2008–2011); secretary (1983–1984); Hospitality Committee (1995, 2006); vice president (1996); president (1997–1998, 2012-2013); secretary (1999–2000); Seminar Committee (2007– 2011); and website liaison (2009–2013).
What are your specific qualifications for this position?
I am and have always been an ardent supporter of
SDP. I have many years of experience as a volunteer
with SDP and the Girl Scouts, along with several other organizations. I have several years of experience as a staff person with one of the world’s largest nonprofit, volunteer- driven organizations. Combining my experience with my intelligence, thoughtful presentation, and compassion, I feel I would be an asset to SDP in this position.
List any additional information that may provide support for your qualifications for this position.
I have taught decorative painting since 1984. I have been a member and current secretary of the Kiwanis Club
of Grand Junction for over five years. I was a member
of the Mesa County Legal Secretaries Association, and have served as president and vice president, and have been awarded the Chapter Member of the Year. I am a certified professional legal secretary (national status) and member of Colorado Legal Secretaries Association. I have served as president of Director of Volunteers in Agencies (DOVIA) and have worked as the co-chair of the statewide convention. I am a past officer and current member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
What are your goals and vision for the society?
My goals and vision for SDP are the same as most members, I’m sure. I would like to see the organization achieve financial stability and viability; membership growth and retention; and a continuing strong relationship with our industry partners. I feel the skills I bring with me would help SDP achieve these goals.
