16. Using the no. 4 bright, base the breast in French Ultramarine+Titanium White. Blend a little into the green upper belly feathers below the breast. Pull out some hori- zontal streaks to indicate feather layers where the blue will interlock with the green neck color. Base the dark areas on green neck with Ivory Black+Sap Green. Base light- value greens on the neck with Sap Green+Cadmium Yellow Pale+tch Titanium White. Base the top of the neck, and behind and under the eye, with a bit of the lighter yellow- ish mix of Cadmium Yellow Pale+Raw Sienna+Titanium White (1:tch:tch). Walk some green horizontal marks in between the blue marks on the blue breast.
17. Blend the yellowish highlight value on the neck into the green below, using short strokes and following the di- rection of the feather growth. Shade the blue breast with small horizontal marks of Ivory Black+French Ultrama- rine. Place a small area of Winsor Red+Raw Umber+tch Cadmium Yellow Pale behind the eye and at the top of the neck, just below the cheek. Base the iris with the same red mix, using the no. 0 bright. Shade the back of the iris with a little Raw Umber. Base the pupil with Ivory Black.
18. Using the no. 0 bright, outline the iris with a slightly thinned Ivory Black. With a medium gray mix of Ivory Black+Titanium White outline the eye, leaving the nar- rowest possible line of Ivory Black around the red iris. Us- ing a no. 2 bright, base the darkest values on the head and the beak with Ivory Black. With sparse Ivory Black, reduce the intensity of some of the red accents around the head. Base the crown of the head and the remainder of the beak with the same gray mix used to outline the eye.
19. Blend the gray on the crown into the surrounding black, using choppy strokes with the no. 2 bright. Do not overwork. Using the same brush and choppy strokes, blend the values on the beak. Allow some soft texture to remain, especially where the beak meets the forehead.
