1" brush before applying washes. Float Uniform Blue+tch Admiral Blue on the top part of the sky, working the col- or downward and stopping about two-thirds of the way down. Float Mauve on the lower part of the sky, start- ing at the bottom and working upward. Float the water with Uniform Blue+Sapphire. Float the land with Antique Green+Asphaltum+Plantation Pine (3:2:1). After this ini- tial application is complete, you can darken the washes where necessary. When the colors are to your liking, transfer the remainder of the design.
Note: When floating on the background washes do not allow different colors to overlap. If a color escapes its intended area—for instance, if the blue wash for the sky overlaps the green wash for the hills—wipe it off with a dry paper towel. Additionally, I prefer multiple washes to one heavy wash. The painting will get too dark too fast if you use one heavy wash.
