      SHORELINE ARTS FESTIVAL
Northwest Decorative Artists Chapter - Seattle, Washington
Founded in 1989, the Shoreline/Lake Forest Park Arts Council provides arts, culture, children’s programs and events in the community. On June 27 - 28, the Arts Council hosted the Shoreline Arts Festival. An estimated 20,000 people of all ages attended the program’s events. Included in the events were performances, an artist’s marketplace, cultural rooms, a junior art show, a regional artist’s show, and hands-on art projects (make-it-take-its). There was
no charge to attend this event or participate in any of the projects.
This year the Northwest Decorative Artists Chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters participated in the Arts Festival. With help from Royal Brush, DecoArt, and Valhalla Laser, they provided over 700 make-it-take- it projects. The goal was to educate the community about the various art styles and let people experience decorative painting. People could select from a little
bag that was stenciled and stamped with celery, a
vintage card decorated with watercolor pencils, or a wooden owl or a snowman cone. Most stayed and tried each project. In fact, whole
families came and painted
the projects together. Only
20 surfaces were left at the end
of the two day event. It was
truly an honor for the Chapter
to participate in this event.
