Chapter Happenings
TAKE YOUR PAINTING SKILLS ON AN ARTFUL JOURNEY AT THE CHAPTERS AND MEMBERS GATHERING
Have you traveled yet to the land of mixed media? Gone on a watercolor safari? How about a cruise aboard a colored pencil ship or gone on a journey in search of the new coloring books for adults?
Why not broaden your horizons and take a journey down a new and artistic path by participating in the 8" x 8" creative challenge exchange?
Whatever medium you choose, bring your creation (flat surface, please) to the Chapters and Members Gathering at the annual SDP International Conference & Expo. We will all have the opportunity to take a look and see what everyone has created and vote on the most creative pieces.
ATTENTION
+
There will be prizes for the top winners, plus they will be featured in a future SDP eZine.
During the Gathering, we will be discussing membership growth opportunities for SDP and chapters; finding out what works for other chapters and brainstorming to find new and different ways for fundraising activities and membership drives.
ALL
This will be fun and exciting with lots of organized chatter and door prizes! You won’t want to miss this event!
CHAPTERS
PAINTING ON SILK SCARVES WITH SHARPIE MARKERS
A FUN CHAPTER ACTIVITY!!
Gateway Decorative Artists of Greater St. Louis, Missouri
For a fun chapter activity, members of the Gateway Decorative Artist of Greater St. Louis, Missouri made some beautiful silk scarves by using Sharpie Permanent Markers and rubbing alcohol. Sandy Aubuchon first came up with this activity idea and several of the chapter members soon agreed that this would be a great project to do together
as a group. Barb Ogden, Program Chairman,
got busy gathering all the supplies for this
event. The only thing the members had to
bring was their own collection of Sharpie
Permanent Markers.
On the day of the meeting, there were
several examples of different colored and
designed scarves displayed to get the creative
juices flowing. After receiving instruction on
how to make the scarfs, everyone went to work; scribbling on the waxy side of the freezer paper with their markers; spraying the paper with rubbing alcohol; letting the colors blend together to make a design, and lastly; laying the silk scarf down on the wet paper to transfer the design onto the scarf. Everyone had a ball and was super creative!
