Step 5: Brush-mix a Yellow Green Leaf Color using Sap Green Permanent with a little Permalba White (1:tch). Using the same strokes as those in the first white acrylic step, pull one stroke after the other without reloading the brush in the order indicated (a-d). With each stroke, shadow color will be picked up on the brush, changing and darkening the next stroke.
Step 6: Highlight. Brush-mix additional Permalba White into the previous mix. Highlight the first comma-stroke
(l). At this point you must determine if further highlight is needed on the light side of the leaf. If so, add an additional stroke. Touch the chisel edge of the brush to the strokes on the opposite side of the leaf, highlighting just the edges (m). Note that the chisel edge of the brush leaves a sharp line that points to the end or tip of the leaf.
Brush-mix Teal with Permalba White (1:tch) and pull strokes through the wet shadow colors on the smaller Teal filler leaves. Highlight with a slightly lighter mix and one stroke.
Do not pull vein lines or liner strokes until all the leaves, buds and flowers are painted.

Step 1: Undercoat the buds using Titanium White. Leave black space between strokes/shapes.
Step 2: Basecoat with color, either Hot Pink or Raw Sienna or Dark Hydrangea. Refer to the photo for color placement. Three color choices were spaced around the tray for color balance (in no particular order.)
