LARGE BUD WORKSHEET 4
FILLER FIVE-PETAL FLOWERS WORKSHEET 5
Step 1: Undercoat with Titanium White acrylic color. Paint the full/whole flowers first and then fill in around with the partial flowers/individual petals. Place a dot in the center to guide the strokes.
Step 2: Basecoat the flowers with Lavender. Separate the light and dark areas with Alizarin Crimson. Deepen the centers and between the petals/strokes with Paynes Grey.
Step 3: Switch to oil color. Shine the surface with Oil Painting Medium. Cover the shaded areas with Alizarin Crimson. Deepen the centers and separate the petals with Paynes Grey.
Step 4: Brush-mix Quinacridone Violet with Permalba White (1:tch). Begin with the whole flowers and the petals closest to the center of the tray/floral design, pulling strokes up and around the flowers without reloading.
Step 5: Brush-mix a lighter color with additional white and pull highlight strokes to the bottom and two side strokes/ petals. Leave the top/back/outside deeper in tone. Do not highlight the partial flowers/single petals.
Use a fine liner and dot Cadmium Red Light in the very center of the whole flowers and any partial flowers where the center could be visible. Dot Cadmium Yellow Medium around the red center.
Step 1: Undercoat with Titanium White acrylic color. Step 2: Cover the white with a Flower Color. Study the
photograph for color placement.
Step 3: Separate the light and dark areas with Alizarin Crimson
and Navy Blue.
Step 4: Switch to oil color. Shine the surface with Oil Painting Medium. Paint over the shaded areas with Alizarin Crimson. Deepen with Paynes Grey.
Step 5: Lighten the Flower Colors slightly (similar to the roses) and pull in the first layer of highlight strokes.
Step 6: Lighten again, adding Permalba White to highlight the tops/fronts of the petals. Leave the top/back darker.
Step 7: Paint the flower receptacle (when all flowers and buds have been painted). Outline the round shape with Alizarin Crimson. Fill with the Yellow Leaf Green Color. Add a spot of Cadmium Yellow Medium to the center.
Step 8: Pat the wet color with a 3/8" mop brush to soften, maintaining a highlight in the center of the round shape.
Step 9: Use the Yellow Leaf Green Color and round brush to fill the sepal shapes. Drag the ends to a fine line so as to disappear into the background. These should not be bold or have any visual impact.
