Dress the No. 4 filbert with linseed oil; pinch out the excess with a paper towel and then load with the Value 3 Background Mix. Place it within the Value 3 background area as shown on the map. Be sure to have plenty of paint so it can be easily blended. Pinch the brush, load with Value 4 Background Mix, work it onto the Value 4 area and blend between the values. Continue to place the values according to the map and blend between each one.
Place Value 2 Background Mix on top of the Value 3 on the left side of the panel; blend to soften the edges. The No. 2 filbert can be used in the smaller areas inside the glass. After the values have been placed inside the glass, use the wipeout tool to remove a triangular area on the right side, below the waterline (see placement for wipeout in the glass step-by-steps on pg 42).
