LET’S PAINT
GOLDEN LEAVES
To me, these leaves are just gorgeous! I love playing with the golds and the colors. I vary the colors. It’s hard to do that on the worksheets. You can see that, though, in the finished photograph of the project. Sometimes I’ll paint each leaf two or three times to get the depth and color I want! Paint the leaves first, as they are under your roses.
Step 1: Block in the leaf using brushstrokes. I chose a brush half the width of the leaf I am painting. The color I use is Green Gold.
Step 2: Apply a shadow at the base of the leaf with a double-loaded brush of Green Gold and Burnt Umber, plus a touch of Prussian Blue or Sap Green and let dry.

Step 3: Apply Blending Gel to the leaf. Stroke in the leaf as shown on the worksheet. Add more gel if needed, then apply Green Gold, Titanium White, Sap Green, more Green Gold, or any color or colors of your choice to the center of the leaf.
Step 4: Wipe your brush and blend from the base of the leaf out into each of the strokes using a light touch.
Step 5: Wipe the brush and lightly blend from the edges of the strokes back in toward the base as shown on the worksheet. If you need to add more gel or paint, do so.
Step 6: You can go back over the leaf, accent and deepen the shadows as you desire. Study the worksheet and, perhaps more importantly, the finished leaves on the painted piece.
