Joyce Stegeman began her artistic career in the early 1970’s while living in a small town in South Dakota. She took the only painting class that was available, a Norwegian Rosemaling Class. This began her lifetime passion for Rosemaling. After moving to Yuma, AZ in 1978, her Rosemaling came to the attention of the vice president of the local college, thus began her teaching career. She has had other articles published in The Decorative Painter and also has taught at national conventions for the Society of Decorative Painters.
